It really does not seem like there is a way out. In Vietnam there was defeat. In Iraq, as the death toll rises and the money spent goes down the drain, there is got to be some sense in both parties leaders to search for a "honorable" but pitiful exit. People far apart from it all like me, living thousands of miles away, still get terrified everyday with the news about lots of deaths, suicides, car-bombs. I wonder how long American families will stand loosing their young ones or having them crippled for life.

The Democrats are fighting for the anti-war position to end the war. They think this will end the conflict, which is true for America in the short term, but it is false for the world, especially Iraq. They cannot deviate from that plan, it is what got them into office. Plus, in 6 years the Democrats have not even mentioned 1 plan that favors using military action to bring the war to a conclusion. They lack an exit strategy just as much as the Bush administration does.
Honestly, the only thing Republicans can do is keep the war going and ignore Democrats, or try to ask for patience (which they won't get) or cooperation (don't even think about it).

Personally, I believe that while the citizens of the Middle East want to be free, they also really, really hate anyone who isn't just like them.
The only way to stop the citizens of Iraq from killing each other is to split the country into three separate countries. One for the Sunnis, one for the Shiites, and one for the Kurds. Then we can pull out and let them kill each other from long range.

The troops will have to come home or the Republicans will have to host bake sales to buy bullets. Even Bush isn't dishonest enough to leave them in Iraq without supplies.

actually its a lame duck congress and nothing is going to be done..the war of course will go on..that is Job # 1..so this trivial little setback in the last elections only put a crimp in the Presidents style..business as usual in Washington DC...even after January 2009 there will be a war going on somewhere..probably forever
war is very profitable ..if it were not so then there would be less wars going on
