these are just my opinion...

Malmsteen is an influencial player, even SX was influenced by him...He WAS also a creative player...but hello? can he play something thats out of the harmonic minor scale...he can but he wouldnt... every song from him sounds the same, he just doesnt know how to make something more interesting, when he made something cool he is just stuck there for life. and i ve seen him live and honestly after the first hour of the show, it just felt repetitive...

Now on to Symphony X... these guys didnt just rip off malmsteen, they have created their own sound. They are the first progressive metal band that i got into and i just love how the band members are doing their roles in the band whilst none of them are being neglected. for malmsteen, he just hogs the show just because he is the 'best'. All the members in Symphony X are talented, not just one guy... Its a BAND - not a one-man team.

Therefore I like Symphony X by alot more, All of Malmsteen's albums together feels like the effort of 2 SX albums lol

My personal favorite would have to be Malmsteen because I look up to him. I like the how he plays and also I have grown up with his music. Symphony X is good as well but I know Malmsteen better!!!!!

I'm not familiar with Symphony X - I'll have to check them out if you are comparing them to Yngwie. Yngwie is one heckuva player - different style than what I do, but that's fine (I'm blues-rock instead). I've got several of his recordings - his instrumentals are masterpieces.
