Republicans all too often go with their "gut feeling" and ignore the facts when it comes down to making vital decisions on foreign and domestic policy, tending to ignore the facts and supress contrary points of view. Whether it concerns bi-partisan recommendations of the Iraq Study Group, scientific papers on global warming, church in public schools, birth control, gay marriage, or taxes vs. deficit reduction, you will always find Republicans on the side of the issue that is least logical and least supported by evidence. Is the Republican leadership too hysterically swayed by their own personal feelings to make intelligent decisions?

You make a very, very good point. You can't let "feelings" or "faith-based writings" impact your logic and judgement while holding positions of such power.

1. I don't care how bipartisan a study group is. If it advocates for the defeat of our own nation, than it should be completely ignored by anyone actually interested in victory. You know, the guys who aren't politicizing a war to get their power back.

2. There is no proof of human-caused global warming. None. But if you look there is plenty of proof that humans aren't causing global warming:
- Most of the current warming occurred before heavy industrialization
- Solar energy is increasing, causing the entire solar system to heat up
- If you look at a graph of solar energy and global temperature, they match perfectly. If you look at a graph of temperature and carbon dioxide levels, they don't.
- The climate record shows that we are in the part of the cycle where the temperature naturally goes up because of changes in the sun and in the angle of the earth's tilt
- The predictions of the global warming models aren't coming true.

3. How would church in public schools hurt anyone? I know liberals despise the idea of morality, but a 'disciplined' (to an extent) society is necessary for a country to be productive. How bout atheism in the schools? Is that equally a problem?

4. No intelligent conservative has any problem with birth control.

5. There is no such thing as gay marriage. It is an invention of liberals.

6. Fiscal responsibility and the deficit are never problems when liberals want to spend money they don't have. Look at the records. Whenever somebody cuts taxes, it increases economic activity, and the government makes more money. It happens every time, even though the 'experts' say it won't. And here's an idea government: spend less than you "make", everybody else in America does it!

Yes, too angry, too ideological, too arrogant and too stubborn to make well considered rational decisions and compromises. They are copying the natural personality of George Bush, and the evangelical fire and certainty of many Republican rank and file. When the influence of these elements wanes, the Republican Party will return to realism and rational thinking.

You're mistaking emotional apeals to thier base with being ruled by such emotion, themselves. Both sides make emotional apeals, both sides are basically cynical and calculating.
