Is Copyright limited to written material only or designs too?

If I Copyright protect a document with designs in it, will the design have some form of protection too, and if yes, to what extent?

copyright is for fixed form, so sculptures, photos, painting, graphic drawings are just some of the protected items. it also has to be an original work of human authorship.
