Freedom. It is the most threatening thing to ideologies of any sort, including all U.S.A. ones. This is why even the United States seems to be in a perpetual ideological war.

Lies cannot survive the light of freedom.

Simply put, because we are the most free nation on the planet. Not only are the terrorists jealous of our substantial liberties, they feel as though independence is a threat to their control over the world -- which I'm proud to say it is.

The jealousy comes in because our freedoms have made us the most prosperous nation in the world, and we managed to do it honestly and of our own free will; the terrorists can accomplish nothing unless they do it by force and dishonestly. Besides that, our rewards for doing it that way are far greater than the terrorists' ever have been.

Our independence and self-reliance is a threat, as well: terrorist domination of the world (by any group, not just the Islamic terrorists) relies on those who are terrorized being so afraid of the terrorizers that they will bow to any demand. A free person's independence will not permit that.

The countries which side with them become our enemies as well. If the terrorists are trying to destroy us (which they've made clear in no uncertain terms), any aid they receive will help them achieve that end. Resources may be used directly to blow up buildings, or indirectly to free up other resources for that purpose; sanctuary may provide any amount of aid, from a safe place to hide to training grounds. So yes, there is a very good reasoning behind President Bush's "If you're not with us, you're against us" theory; it may not apply in all circumstances, but for the most part it stands.

Ok. In the last 10 years how many actual terrorist attacks have their been on soil, foreign to the terrorists? I will tell you that in Iraq there are daily suicide, truck and IED bombs going off and in Britain and the US there are exactly none. Does that tell you that our security is the greatest in the world or does it tell you that the muslims living on our shores are not all terrorists. So the question should be if America invade a country with their friends should they and their friends expect an easy ride in that country? The answer is I wouldn't be sat on my **** doing nothing if Iraq and Afganistan invaded my country unlawfully and started stealing our natural resources. I think I would be pretty pissed off I were in their shoes right now. I will ask the question again as I have before on here. Do the British and American people really think that they have made Britain and America safer by invading countries that had nothing to do with 9/11?

Simple, we are their biggest threat. The west has strong, but very different views from the fundamental terrorists. The terrorists have some warped views on their religion and believe that they need to follow "The method of Muhammad" (i'm not saying every Islamic person believe this, just the terrorists) "In order to achieve the same success that Muhammad experienced they must follow exactly in his steps." The meccans were the enemy because they opposed Islam, but now it is the west/America that is the enemy. The terrorists believe that they NEED to bring the entire world under Allah's rule by ANY means necassary. The Jihadist grand strategic vision "to attack the near enemy (Europe-spain,london) then the far enemy (the US) or to attack the greater non belliever (the US) then the lesser non believer (The united states allies)." Terrorists get their information mostly from something called the Sirah which is a book created by men that outlines the method of Muhammad and the Jihadist Grand strategic vision. There are also things called Fatwas which are orders issued by a religous authority for some action to occur. Bin Laden issued a Fatwa calling for action against the United States. Most muslims dissmissed this because Bin Laden is not a religous figure, but to the terrorists he is and they took this seriously.

This is not to say that our foreign policy is helping matters any. I literally have a list of notes of things that we did in Iraq that turned the people against us. For instance we made the Boathist party illegal (Saddams party that people joined not necassarily for beliefes, but for job benefits) this effected 50,000 people (we've since changed that policy). We also said that all former military personal are no longer allowed to serve in that capacity leaving 300,000 armed & trained people without jobs (i believe we've changed this policy as well).

Because America are the real terrorists and the ones they are claiming are terrorists groups they and the British trained to fight the Russians in the cold war. Now the Russians are quiet for a while it's time to get ahead in the game by securing the worlds energy source (ie oil) and they are using those former groups to frighten the public and justify invading the Middle East where all the oil (most of it anyway) is.

America (and most western countries) are pluralist societies. We accept more than one idea (religion, politics, etc.) it offends them. They believe that strick fallowing of 5th century Islam is the only way to live and that anyone who doesn't believe that is their enemy. And the USA as the largest exporter of values that these people can't stand becomes the main target.

Also...terrorists are evil lunitics.

Freedom for primitive people is frightening. For many animals at the zoo, if you open their cage they don't want to come out. It is frightening to be on your own after thousands of years of having someone else tell you what to think and how to behave. It takes a long time to reach the point where making your own decisions is feasible, and where a society can accept a lot of independent people running around. It sounds simple to an American, because we are born into a country were we are expected to learn and think. But in many parts of the world, a child is taught ONLY what the government wants them to know.

America directly challenges their entire way of life and they are very very frightened. It is human nature to try to destroy that which frightens...

Terrorists target America primarily for its strong-arm tactics involving the CIA, particularly those around 1950 that overthrew Iran's government, established Israel, and caused some other bits of mayhem around the world.
