who I may like, given that I have a varied taste in music, however I am very partial to: Nina Simone, Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice, Corriene Bailey Rae, frank Sinatra, and the other crooners, and I like jazzy, funky sounds, or suggest a totally unique sound, not too mad on pop, heavy rock or techno

If you like the crooners. Check out Michael Buble'. He has 2 albums to check out. One is called "michael Buble". The other is called "It's Time". Both are FANTASTIC. He is the modern day crooner. Also, check out KT tunstall's "Eye to the Telescope" Album. Great album. Norah Jones is a great jazz singer. Regina Spektor would be a good one to check out as well. Robie Williams is great as well. For a unique sound, I would agree with the sufjan stevens. The album to listen to is "come on feel the illinois." I'm sure i could give you more to listen to, but i can't think of anymore off the top of my head.

Nick Drake; ace folky type singer from the early seventies, just awesome.

Jeff Buckley; also dead! but his album Grace is a bit of everything and he had the most beautiful voice.

Goldfrapp; if you like something a bit funkier, both dancy and sort of chillout ambient at the same time, just unique really.

Hope that helps x

Morphine was a great band out of boston. Very chill, kinda bluesy, mature music. I suggest Like Swimming or Cure for Pain.
