Sometimes I'm looking for answers. Half the time I ask a question in a provacative manner just to see where people stand on an issue I have been thinking about. It's interesting.
a small portion of the time I post a question just because I'm hoping it makes people think. Based on their responses, I can tell if it did or not.

Yes. I only ask questions if I seriously want to know the answer/answers.

Not all the time, sometimes its interesting just to see a reaction to the question. Cause and effect thing. Kind of interesting in a weird way for me.

I ask for different points of views.
What suppose the reason should be they ask other than getting answer?
Are you looking for answer for this particular question?

Sometimes, while at other times, I am only looking for other people's ideas on an issue.

Why else does anyone ask questions? Unless of course one wishes to be a smart /\SS by asking a rhetorical question...
