You need to have your blood tested to determine whether or not you have aids. Find a clinic in your phone book, get an appointment to be tested, and put your mind at ease. The test is free and confidential. Good luck.

AIDS is caused by a virus HIV. When you become infected, nothing obvious happens. You may experience some flu like systems that go away after a week. You will then look and feel normal, often for many years.

HIV damages the immune system. Once the damage is extensive, you are likely to catch various diseases that are unusual in a healthy person. When these diseases occur, the doctor will suspect AIDS. A blood test is needed to determine the number of cells left in your immune system.

People with AIDS get various diseases, and many of them are treatable. They can then have long periods where they are healthy. Over time, these infections wear them out, and eventually lead to death.

The acronym means Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome; you don't die from AIDS itself, but from one of the diseases you are prone to once your immune system is destroyed.
