If it is on glass, pottery, metal or plastic WD40 works great. If you do not have this plain peanut butter will help remove the sticker and glue. You can also purchase commercial products such as Gum Off.

Anything citrus based will clean adhesive. There are citrus based cleaners you can buy which will get rid of left over adhesive. Alternatively, squeeze a few lemons , put in spray bottle with a water dilution. Spray , let soak for a few minutes. It should just wipe away. The citric acid is what eats the adhesive. It's not aggressive, but will do the job. Spot test first if you want to be sure.

For home remedies, peanut butter is good. But you really should get a bottle of Goo-Gone. It's really cheap at the hardware store. It's a silly name, but it even takes double-sided carpet tape of ceramic brick.
