No it is very much illegal. You are stealing a copyrighted material without the owners consent. Some people are asking why sites aren't shut down or videos getting removed. Videos on Veoh, MegaVideo, and other sites are constantly being removed. The reason sites such as animeseason or others don't get shut down is because they don't host the videos. There also aren't any gray areas. No matter what anime you watch online, it's illegal. Animes that aren't licensed are still copyrighted and can't be watched online even if there not available near you. People just think it's legal because the copyright holders don't care. You won't get in trouble but it's still illegal. The only way to watch anime online legally is if the producers upload it to the website like crunchyroll, some videos on YouTube, or the animes offical website.

It depends on the anime

If an anime is licenced then yes, it is illegal to watch it in any form, dubbed or subbed or raw. A company or companies bought the rights to distribute the content of an anime (including the episodes themselves) When you watch it, you are downloading it to your computer (you don't have to actually save it for it to be downloading, the anime is downloaded to a temporary area on your computer, and then loaded into whichever media player you have. It's still there even when you close your browser. You've left a footprint on the site and on your computer)

That said, nobody is going to bust down your door and arrest you in the middle of watching Naruto on YouTube, Nobody can sue you, but if they really wanted to they could sue YouTube... Why would you buy a DVD when you can download the episodes for free on YouTube? Why would you pay to go to the movies when you can just download the movie for free? (This happened with the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie)

The only anima that would be illegal to watch would be the adult stuff if you were under 18 (21 in some areas). It is a very good questions watching it normally wouldn't be illegal, but to view it I think you need to cache it -- i could be wrong there. When you cache it the file would be temporarily downloaded to your machine even if you didn't intentionally do it. Hmm >.> this is a toughy. I think it would matter if the movie off youtube would be cached or not. A good laywer could really run with that if it is (it would be the end of youtube and a lot of other clip posting places).

Well, for the sake of your question, no it would not be illegal for you to watch something that was not obtained legitimatly unless you were the one to obtain it in such ways. In that case you pirated it.

They can't sue someone for watching a video on Youtube. You can be repremanded for uploading copyrighted materials however. They could close your account, or take legal action if you are mass uploading things. And by they I don't mean Youtube, I mean the copyright holder.

Simply watching it won't get you into trouble. Uploading it, on the other hand might get your account suspended.

Generally they don't go after the watchers, just the uploaders and the hosts. (You Tube has faced several lawsuits because of this type of thing)

Actually I was trying to watch bleach episodes but the subbed(japanese episodes with english subtitles) only went up to 25.

I think its cause people uploaded the dubbed(english voiced) shows from CN. They probably didnt want them so they are taking them all down.

I blame the fools who like the dub who uploaded them cause of them they are taking the subbed down also.

Plus japan probably isnt concerned about it since it brings a lot more viewers who like myself like the japanese version better instead of american dubbed where they edit stuff out like blood & language.

Its like hearing a british accent, it isnt normal to you but to them your accent sounds odd.

It depends on the anime that you are talking about. If the anime is licensed then it is illegal, but they won't put you into jail or something if you watch them/upload them.

Well if it has been licended in america then yeah it illegal. But if it has not been licences then no, cause there really isn't any international copyright legislation. So as long as it hasn't been licenced in your particular country then yeah it's legal because of that loop whole.

Yes. The not legal thing would be if they were to say sell commercials of Spider-man. It is perfectly legal. I do it all of the time.
