tears do not contain salt but some form of sodium and chlorine which combines to give a taste like salt but it is not salt

Certainly do!!

May sound nasty, but next time you cry/ have a tear, touch it with your finger then taste it! It sure tastes salty.

Same goes for sea turtles- they cry saltly tears to get rid of the excess salt in their system. Maybe it is the same for us!

Tears are composed of many different substances such as enzymes, lysosymes (to fight infection) and about 0.9% NaCl ("salt"). There are also different types of tears: Reflux when you cry and Basilar which form the "normal" tear layer.
