Many I would say do it just to "fit in" because they think it's the "right thing to do", etc.. Sadly, a lot of young people out there feel that the only way to be liked is to do things that others are doing, etc.

It is, of course, not only young people that drink too much, and sometimes possibly those young people do get it watching the older people in their families as well?

life is sometimes hard to deal with and alcohol is an escape for many people. It allows them to get away from the stresses of life. The problem of course is that when you sober up the problems are still there, your breath stinks and you spent money on the alcohol.
For teenagers, it can be the above, or they feel pressure from others to conform and "join in"

lets see it wasn't to long ago that i was a teenager. honestly lets get real. they drink because it's fun. i didn't do it because of peer pressure. heck, i was the first in my group of people to drink and my friends started drinking with me. i didn't pressure them into anything. we all had fun.

now is it right for teenagers to drink? NO.
