My wife calls me "Papi Gringo" all the time. Doesn't bother me. We're both white. I guess it was just a word Mexicans used to call European settlers once upon a time . I heard once it came from someone singing "Green grows the grass on my old Kentucky home."

What the hell does that mean anyways?? Me and my friends call eachother that all the time. I think it's funny!! Only the racist really get offended. People who aren't racist take it with a grain of salt, unless someone really is being mean about it, but me and all my friends of different ethnicities call eachother all kindsa names.

The first time I heard it was actually by a friend of mine who is from Holland, and you say you're from England...how funny!!

I am as white as it gets, my Dad and his whole family came here from England when he was a teenager, I don't care about the name calling, but it's kind of weird to me, as an adult I have been exposed to alot of nicknames and name calling but growing up there was none of this in our house, even in anger. I wonder why my family didn't engage in this common practice.

It's been used as a racist term and has come to infer a derogatory context. That's just how it is.

Why do so many people have to post racially charged questions? Can't you come up with anything else? This is getting old.

Pretty much for the same reason a Mexican gets annoyed when you call him a "wetb-ck"!
