You can supplement their diet with things like Lettuce, mustard greens, turnip greens, collard greens, spinach, peas, endive, seaweed, cukes, kale, chard, broccoli, lima beans, green beans, etc. and feed aquatic plants (e.g. duckweed, azolla, salvenia, etc) or hair algae daily.
For their Carotenoids which are a family of pigments the fish can't make themselves and are obtained as part of the diet. These pigments result in red, yellow and orange colors. Fish have cells called chromataphores. Those cells convert lutein and carotenes into astaxanthin which is the red pigment.
sources include, brine shrimp, krill, spirulina, marigold flowers, paprika, sweet red peppers, yams, carrots, pumpkin
Watermellons and oranges are also good as well as proteins like chicken (chicken livers) beef (livers and parts) and pork as well as worms and bugs
DO not feed plecos potatoes. Too many carbs that their bodies cannot break down. These complex sugars will eventually lead to health problems with your fish.

Most veggies float, but take a piece of zucchini or something and put some of it under a rock or in a plant. I use wafers that sink for all around feeding, and then use a clamp (available at pet stores) that suctions to the glass and holds the veggie treat. My pleco loves it and it knows that the clamp means a treat.

Very few will sink on their own. You might try slightly softened carrot. You can just stick a fork in the piece of veggie to weigh it down though, it's not too hard to do. If you have a deep tank and don't want to get your whole arm wet every day, just tie a string to the fork.

i like sparkling white corn the proper. while it incredibly is provided in early spring summer season that's the proper vegetable. merely cook dinner it a splash and butter and consume. Or for some thing a splash distinctive i like to shrink the corn of the cob and saute it with peppers and onions. Thats spectacular to boot. i like carrots yet dont consume them that frequently as they confusing for me to swallow. in no way been a great fan of cauliflower.
