can anyone tell me what Bad Gateway means when trying to open a secure web page.?

This means an incorrect router address being used. Which gateway it refers to, who knows, it may help if there is further info in the error message.

I would guess you are being 'redirected' and the server delivering the Secure Page does not like it :-)

Are you on a Company network ???

Most likely the Network Adminsitrators are redirecting all web traffic via their Proxy Servers (and this prevents a direct link from your PC to the secure page server)
