Depends wether they are just dirty or rusted/corroded if they are rusted/corroded i would reccomend getting some kind of metal cleaner, i used brasso myself and try cleaning them with a cloth, if this doesn't remove it use wire wool start with the finest grade and apply some brasso/ chrome cleaner to it. I had to use a courser grade with a bike i recently bought because it hadn't been done for so long. It takes some time but it is worth it in the end. Once you have done it you could put a smear of baby oil or vaseline on to stop them oxidising and looking dull. If hey are just dirty use good old soap and water then a cloth with some metal cleaner on. Oh and don't forget to get on it and enjoy it - some people seem to spend every minute cleaning and tinkering instead of just going for a ride Not saying you are mind...regards

There is no easy way to clean spokes. Here is what I use to restore vintage motorcycle and bicycle rims and spokes.
1. Get big stereo.
2. Get those copper brillo pads. The copper ones won't damage chrome yet they have enough bite to remove surface rust.
3. Use an orange hand cleaner with light grit. Not the pumice stuff with heavy grit.
4. Turn on stereo.
5. Clean each and every spoke with cleaner and copper pad.
6. When done, apply chrome polish to each spoke.
7. Sit back and enjoy your gleaming wheels!
8. Point out your gleaming wheels to all your friends and strangers on the street.
9. Go riding.
10. Start over.

Use a stiff brush, like the ones that people use to clean floors with. The kind that has a wooden back in the shape of an hour glass. For rust and that kind of cleaning, the old rag with rust remover and the one spoke at a time thing is about the only way.

Here's my method:
Go to Wal-Mart and buy some wide cloth shoe laces.
Dunk/soak a few in a can of chrome cleaner/polish.
Take one out and wrap once around a spoke. Work both ends back & forth in a shoe shine action.
Take a dry one and do the same shoe shine action to clean off cleaner/polish.

well, you could buy some autoglym which you can spray on your wheel and then brush it off with a soft brissle one like a large tooth brush then hose it down and you can get a rag which doesn't leave bits of fluf then wipe them. This will make them shine. thats about as much as you can do at home or you can get them proffesionally valeted which would be a bit dear.

If you are referring to normal painted spokes then the Orange hand cleaner available from spares shops works fantastically. If you are referring to unpainted ones then the suggestions that you have been given by others are equally as valid.

Any auto parts store sells "wire wheel cleaner".
Spray it on, let it soak, hose it off.
That will clean road debris, brake dust and chain lube.
You'll have to wax them after, to make them shine.
