I read candidates going on and on about many topics that may or may not be important. To me, and many families in the United States, the ever increasing price of gas at the pump may be the most important issue in the upcoming election next the war in iraq. I worked in Chicago for three years doing a number of biotechnology jobs that paid in the range of 25k to 35k a year. however, for many of these jobs i had to drive round trip about 100miles a day with no assistance from the job for driving costs, and public transportation to these jobs either did not exist or required multiple transfers that would have taken hours to complete. now with the price of gas being what it is, i have no idea how some people are surviving and have enough for family recreation. I went back to school to try and earn a higher degree and my stipend pays me more than enough to survive, but every month i read articles saying families must cut recreation out of their lives, what are you going to do to help us?

Democrates would keep the price of gas increasing with their anti-production policies Vis-a-vis oil. They would raise taxes on gas which would increase prices at the pump, and with their Vision on foreign policy allow producing nations such as Iran and Venezuela to dictate the world market price. Republicans aren't much better, having abandoned their free market philosophies in favor of the Rove policies of inclusiveness vis-a-vis environmental voters, but by and large the more Conservative the candidate the less likely they would be to work against the free market and the better chance prices will stabilize or even fall

Politicians have no control over supply and demand, other than (1) lowering the federally or state-imposed taxes on gas, (2) raising taxes on the user so high that demand slows, and (3 raising tariffs on the suppliersso high that supply slows ... which will also increase costs.

espreses has the right idea, keep in mind that oil company profits may be at record levels but it is nothing compared to federal and state tax gouging.

These jerks get their panties twisted if you mess with the oil companies.. If you can show me a congress person that will stand up to the oil companies, I will VOTE for him or her no
matter what party they belong too. I believe we are on our own on this matter of grave concern to the public.
