of course, we all hate people who steal, cheat or otherwise are ethically or morally-challenged. but the actions of a couple of people shouldn't taint the entire profession, should it? it's like hating lawyers, hating police, hating mother-in-laws...

i understand if you've had a bad experience with a realtor, but what about the rest of you who don't even own a house?? what's up with all the hate??

it's monday...

6% for doing very little other than listing a property.. is one big reason..

However, they are taking a risk and it costs them monthly to be a part of the local MLS. So they have to charge for the work that they do. Many people just feel that the rate is not appropriate for all occasions.. The higher the cost of the house, the more the Realtor gets for doing the same job. Of course the cheaper the house.. well you get the idea..

As for the others.. well Lawyers become politicians.. and we see how our Government is now (BIG SMILE).. Doctors are considered excessively greedy now.. And probably just about any profession is either too easy, too hard, too much money for the work done, and they were just plain lucky to get that job or position :).

Frankly.. most of the time.. it is simply because people follow a trend or really a herd mentality and just go with what has been told them, without thinking about it themselves.

I am a Realtor in Oregon and I think much of the feeling toward realtors comes from the actions of some (many) years ago. Realtors used to be equated with used car salesmen (sorry!) Fortunately there are many more laws and requirements for Realtors now which reduced the number of complaints. One thing I do know is that the number 1 complaint about Realtors is that they don't stay in touch with their client. This is especially important to sellers when they are not having many showings of their home. Realtors need to discuss the situation with the sellers in an honest straight forward manner. Most important is that Realtors MUST have their clients interest at heart. Once a Realtor puts their clients interest after their own, they are no longer effective or beneficial to their client.

We recently sold a home in Connecticut with an agent who was very professional and nice. That is until we had accepted an offer and then it was like dealing with a completely different person. All of a sudden she was completely interested in what the BUYERS wanted. They asked for expensive unreasonable repairs after the home inspection and she was very firm that we should pay for all of it. There was NO discussion or negotiation about it. The items were upgrades that the buyer wanted NOT repair work or functionality issues at all. The price tag? Just under 7000 dollars. We offered half and our agent was annoyed. She seemed like a stranger representing the buyers only. She never came to the closing or followed up with a note to say she appreciated the business. Just collected a giant paycheck for a few months of computer generated reports and showing the house about 5 times. I am fine with paying people for a service - but this was insane. I wish the system would change!!!

They just aren't worth the money! What services do they possibly provide to earn 10K or more on a $300K sale? When I'm purchasing a home, they get impatient and want me to buy any old thing. When I'm selling a home, I end up doing the work any way to get the sale. Recently, I asked my realtor if she would be present at the closing of my house. No, she said, if you have any questions, call the title company. I'm thinking it would be worth it to get a real estate license and handle my own sales, buying and closing just to avoid dealing with these lazy, greedy people!

Why I hate realtors you ask?? Chose a realtor at an annual seminar that I videotape and edit in Naples, Florida, because she showed up early. Seemed like a nice lady so I introduced myself because my brother was coming into town and was considering purchasing a home. She kindly emailed me her info and it eventually ended up in my brother's email. He bought a home from her and SHE DID NOT CALL OR EMAIL ME TO THANK ME!!! I had to reach out to her via email to GET a thank you from her! No class shown whatsoever. As a business owner myself, if someone was to send me a client and I made 10k they'd be eating at Chop's here in Naples for a week straight. I'm beside myself NOT finding a thank you note, email, or a phone call. Another incident occured 5 years ago when my wife referred a co-worker (who bought a home) to a realtor (that sold us our home) that did not bother to contact us to thank us!!!! I had to call the realtor and say shame on you for not contacting my wife with a thank you. Can a realtor please explain why this happens. Is it because your cheap? Tried to do business with realtors but that never happened because they don't want to spend the money that I am worth. That's all I have to say about that!

Because they only care about themselves - and making money. They are driven by greed. They lie and manipulate and do what it takes to get a sale so they can line their pocketbooks. They carry fraud insurance because people often sue them. Mont Sagely is the greediest one I've ever met. LIED about the size of a home to get more money and when confronted about it didn't even care. He is a professional liar. Had the chance to save a deal but wanted to keep his big 20k profit for doing almost nothing instead. CREEP!

Well I'll give you my opinion.

People who don't understand why things are done by licensee's as required by law and rules and regulations and due to them not having those same levels of specialized education have a tendency to react not a tendency to understand.

I'll use this analogy, although crude, it will make you think.

Along comes the missionary and he lands on a foreign land never visited by civilized man and on the beach he sees a native bringing him a plate full of cooked human body parts. What do you think the reaction of the missionary will be and what do you think the reaction of the native is going to be to the missionary's reaction. Will either of them be right in their reaction?

In any event people react to what they don't know is the norm in the opposing party's behaviour. That is my opinion and like lawyers everyone has one and you just got mine.

Just a short sentence as an ex-real estate sales representative
-- I got out of the business after a year, because it took me
that long to realize that I was an honest person -- I AM ashamed

Real estate agents should work for a fixed fee does not matter the value of the property they are selling. That would be fair. Until that happens I will be doing FSBO.

Because they do hardly anything for the crazy amount of money they get. As housing prices goes up so does their fees, and they're not doing anything more. Sellers like myself resent it. There should be cap.

I'm sure with the internet--more and more of them will be squeezed out. Good riddance.

I'm selling my own property, and I will hire a lawyer to do all the legal and paperwork.
