In the metro Detroit area Dr. Phil and Opera are both on at the same time on different stations, why did the station executives do this?

Why is Oprah and Ellen on at the same time?
Really how can they do that to me? It's so hard to choose between those two. Don't really care too much for Dr. Phil though.

Dr. Phil and Oprah are both syndicated shows, so the stations decide what times they air them. I live in Pittsburgh, and although Oprah and Dr. Phil are on different TV stations, Dr. Phil comes on at 3 and Oprah comes on at 4.

They do it for the competition. In our town Dr. Phil is on at 3 and Oprah is on at 4. I don't watch either. I go to church to get preached to.

Someone told me that Oprah stipulated in her syndication contracts that her show and the Dr. Phil show could not be shown at the same time. They are both Harpo productions.

here in long beach, opera is on channel 7 @3pm and phil is on channel 2 @4pm
...i prefer opera anyway

I never noticed. I'm going to say they put them both on at the same time because that time of day no one watches tv so no one will have to be put through the hell of watching them.
I'm not a fan. Sorry.

I guess its a Detroit thing, but that is strange. But you know what they say, competition is good for business.
