We need to find those prime factors that will divide evenly into 73.

You can see that 2 will not go in since 73 is odd, and 3 won't go in becasue the sum of the digits of the number are not divisible by 3, 6 or 9, and 5 won't goin because the number does not end in 5 or 0.

if you continue with this, you will see that only 1 and 73 will go into 73 and that's the prime factors of 73.

so know you know.

73 is a prime number.
If you divide it by all the primes less than its
square root(i.e. 2,3,5 and 7) you will find
that none of them divide 73, so 73 is prime.
