We're not "for" them, but because we believe in personal liberty and personal responsibility and in the Constitution, we understand that freedom requires that the government not dictate these decisions for us.
Use of tobacco is a personal choice, and one that government has no aurhority to do anything about. The people did not give it the power to protect us from ourselves.
"Unsafe Cars"? Just because the government dictates that cars have additional safety features and gadgets doesn't mean that cars were otherwise unsafe. But, again, it has assumed a power to dictate design, and certainly has forced additional costs to the car makers and the consumers for these safety devices. Some of those nutty "free-marketeers" actually think that people should decide the cost / benefit of paying for those devices, rather than having it dictated to them. How radical!
And there is no conservative who supports allowing firearms to be purchased by the mentally ill. However, there should be no prevention of sane, law-abiding citizens from being able to purchase firearms. Gun control is simply giving away an essential freedom (self defense) for the illusion of safety.

Conservatives are for our Constitutionally guaranteed rights. If you don't want people to smoke make it illegal. Until then even though I don't like the smell and will ask you to get it out of my space I will defend your right to smoke. I cannot point to one instance where Conservatives stood up for unsafe anything. That would be a winning plank on the party platform wouldn't it? Conservatives are not for guns for mental cases, its up to the states to decide what lengths a person must go through to legally obtain a firearm. Oh wait, you want to trample on states rights, I see.
Please take a little time and frame a challenging question that actually is grounded in real life.
