When x=0 then y=-4 and when y=0 x=6

y intercept (x = 0) : -3y - 12 = 0 => y = -4
x intercept (y=0) : 2x = 12 => x = 6

plug in x=0 to solve for the y-intercept: 2(0)-3y-12=0
-3y-12=0 .. solve for y. The y-intercept will be (0, y) where y is the value you solved for.

plug in y=0 to solve for the x-intercept: 2x-3(0)-12=0
2x-12=0 .. solve for x. The x-intercept will be (x,0) where x is the value you solved for.

2x - 3y - 12 = 0

When determining the intercepts, you let one of the variables be equal to zero. For the x-intercept, let y = 0, and for the y-intercept let x = 0.

2x - 3(0) - 12 = 0
2x - 12 = 0
2x = 12
x = 6

2(0) - 3y - 12 = 0
-3y - 12 = 0
-3y = 12
y = -4

So the coordinate points would be: (6,0) and (0, -4)

to plug in intercepts, u plug in 0- for example, if ur trying to find x, u plug in 0 for y

REMEMBER: anything times 0 is 0

2x-3(0)-12=0
2x-0-12=0
2x-12=0
2x=12
x=6

2(0)-3y-12=0
0-3y-12=0
-3y-12=0
-3y=12
y=-4

2007-04-23 14:04:33 · answer #6 · answered by mary 1 · 0 0

When y = 0:-
2x = 12
x = 6
When x = 0:-
- 3y = 12
y = - 4
Intercepts are (6,0) and (0,- 4)
