The body renews by relaxing while you are asleep. You have three phases of sleep and need to enter and exit each phase, before you wake up. Fibromalgia [sp] is one condition that you can succumb to if you are unable to get 'proper' sleep and it hurts! Go to bed when you feel both physically and mentally exhausted, make sure the room is cool, take the phone off the hook, no interruptions and think about a recent vacation or a nice place that you have visited and would like to return too. As to why a lack of sleep kills you, because you and your body functions need it, otherwise the entire system suffers and closes down.

There are lots of reasons for lack of sleep.
Medical reasons and bad habits are both main contributors.
To make sure you don't have any medical reasons, a check-up with your doctor is necessary.
Other tips if it is not because of medical reasons, is to:
1. Make sure you have a supportive mattress.
2. Make enough time to slow down and calm your body before trying to fall asleep.
3. Do not eat right before going to bed. Use restroom before too.
4. Give yourself 6-8hrs of deep sleep.

Lack of sleep can kill you because many people fall asleep behind the wheel. The complete and utter exhaustion can lead to mistakes and injury in the workplace and at home.

As for when, goto sleep when you are tired, as long as you are well rested when you wake up.

Your immune systems reboots itself between the hours of 10pm to 2am so I think 10pm is the perfect time to snooze!
