I need a nut to fit on a screw and 5/16 is a little too small, 5/8 is way to big...?

Is there metric nuts? am I missing a size here? Help!

Missing a bunch it could be 3/8's, 7/16th", 1/2", 9/16th"

another possibility could be that it is metric.
