"Knowledge for knowledge's sake" is to gain knowledge just to satisfy yourself and to show off that you know it (without understanding the meanings, the concepts and purpose behind it).
Yet it can't be said to be a bad thing. Ofcourse u need to know many things just for the sake of knowing it n keep urself updated in society...

Most of the answers here are wrong.
Knowledge for knowledge's sake means learning something to benefit yourself. You learn not because you are forced to by your parents or teachers, but because you want to know more about the world around you.
Increasing your knowledge helps you to understand stuff. Understanding stuff helps you become more capable of getting what you want in life. Gaining knowledge for knowledge's sake therefore means gaining knowledge for your own sake, for being able to make your own life better.
It is a very GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

More knowledge is never a bad thing.
"Knowledge for knowledge's sake" is basically a term used to explain that you can learn something simply for the sake of knowing it without having any other reason for it. Some people can't see the point of learning something without having a need for it while others just refer to the slogan above.

It means that you get knowledge just for the sake of it. Not because it`s useful or anything, but because it gives you some satisfaction. Like shopping, just for the sake of shopping.
