In1994, the Seattle Supersonics (with the best regular season record of 63–19) were a #1 seed facing the #8 seed Denver Nuggets and lost the series. [Insert picture of Mutumbo on the floor clutching the ball with boths hands] It's the first time a #1 seed has lost to a #8 seed. Makes it all the more interesting now that George Karl (coach of the 1994 Sonics) is back in the playoff mix as the coach of the Nuggets.

Yes there has been an eighth seed that has defeated a number one seed . When the Knicks made the NBA Finals in the strike shortened year of 1999 ,they were a number #8 seed in rthe East but they would lose in the finals to the San Antonio Spurs in 5 games.

Yes. the Denver Nuggets were the last team to do it. They eliminated the Seattle Supersonic who were the #1 seed in the playoffs that year and Denver was #8. It was about 14 years ago in the 1993 NBA playoffs.

Denver in 1994 was the first #8 seed to beat the #1 seed in the playoffs.
EDIT: And I had forgotten that the Knicks in 1999 made it all the way to the finals (but lost).

Yes the Denver Nuggets did with Dikembe Mutumbo against the Seattle Supersonics and GP feat. Shawn Kemp in 1994. Also there was one more team to do so I just can't remember but is was recent.

It's true that Denver, the #8 beat Seattle the #1. However, that was in a best of 5 games format, not the current best of 7. It has never happened in a best of 7.
