Employers do not have to give you time off for anything beyond what is required by law... sickness, immediate family member sickness, pregnancy, etc..

Be discreet. You should never tell your present employer when you are looking for a new job. For one, you may not get hired or you may change your mind and by then your present company will be ready to kick you out the door for any small inadequacy.

Discretion, discretion, discretion!!! You don't have to lie - just say you have a pressing personal appointment that you need a few hours off for.

Good luck!

Employment laws vary by state and by job type.

Personally, I would never tell an employer that I needed time off for interviews because they would find some way to retaliate. What if you didn't get the other job? Your current employer would certainly question your loyalty.

I would ask for time off for a doctor's appointment. Even so, they may not have to pay you for your time off.

No. They don't. I also don't advise telling them you're going to be interviewing. That could be bad.

Tell them you need some time off to attend to a personal issue - they can't ask you what it is, nor do they need to know. Then offer to make up the time.

Uh....no.....and why on earth would you tell them anyway? Take a day off, call in sick, or interview during lunch or after hours. At least on our planet, your employer expects to be your priority during business hours.

No - and I can't believe that you would even tell your current boss that you are going to interview for another position!

The only way that would happen is if the position you are applying for is within the same company.

I wish you well!

No. No employer HAS to give you time off for anything but confirmed illness or deaths.

No, they are NOT obligated to give you time off for interviews.

Yeah, tell them you need time off for that. I am SURE they will be happy to accommodate you. LOL. They will give you all the time you need. By FIRING you.

They can let you go for that, unless it is a company that is expecting to cut back in your area, or is going under.
