I'm currently acting as an office manager but I have a long time passion for horses but no experience. I live in the orlando area but have noticed there aren't jobs listed for this. I'd be happy as a stable hand, groomer, ANYTHING and would work for little money or in exchange for lessons or experience. Im 24 by the way and would do anything to get my foot in the door. Any advice?

I suspect that if you do a web search or prowl the yellow pages you can find a horse breeder near you. Find out if there is a mounted unit for any local police. Perhaps Disney has a stable of horses.

Having done that, go talk to them. Don't make an appointment, that sets the tone more formal than will be good for you. Tell them the flat truth, you want to volunteer on weekends in exchange for some training and experience.

Don't take the first offer right away. You are looking for a mentor to start you on the path, not just anyone that is willing to let you muck the stables for free.

I know there is stables and horse riding lessons place near UCF area Devonwood Stables 2518 Rouse Rd Orlando, Florida 32817 407/ 273-0822 and come to think of it you should check out the dinner theater places like Medieval Times, Arabian Nights, Dolly Parton's Dixieland Stampede. They all feature horses and might have some entry level positions. Good luck with your career change!
