the best way to keep yourself interested is to play songs that you like, so your on the right track there. once you start to play better, it becomes alot more enjoyable. you should take lessons as soon as you can, im glad i did, i picked it up alot faster than when i tried to learn by myself.

I've played, gigged, taught, and horsetraded guitars for 20+ years, so here's my 2 cents:

So you can play three chords- that covers a lot - the key of A is a natural for blues, country and rock.- If you want to make some progress fast, get together with someone at about your skill level, agree on a song or two that you want to learn, familiarize yourself with the chords and melody, and meet in a few days- try recording yourselves when you run through at first, and when you're finished- you'll be very surprised at your progress. One important point- Music is a social activity- you won't go very far alone....

All the Best,
Seamus

Your best bet is to take some lessons. If you've already learned a few chords try learning some more.Learn some basic scales and how they relate to chords. Learn some finger exercises as well. Good luck - you've picked the best instrument to learn.

go to house of blues.com and browse the lesson sites and see what is available in their instructions for guitar. I liked it quite well. They have backing tracks for their lessons so you can play along and get a better feel of what is going on.
