Someone gave me 3 gold coins which show they are dollar coins. Are they gold plated or real gold? If they were real gold, they would probably be worth quite a bit...Are the new dollar coins coming as gold plated? Will they be worth a lot more in the future? Are these coins just fake coins--They show Washington on them and the only date they show is his
presidency dates.

The new "Golden Dollars", both Sacajawea and the new Presidential series dollars, contain no gold at all. In my opinion, they are being minted in such large numbers that it is unlikely that they will be worth much more than $1 any time soon.
Compare them to the state quarters. The first three (Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey) are each worth about $1 in uncirculated condition and none of them is worth much more than face in circulated condition.

The Presidential $1 "golden" coins are not made of gold, but a clad coinage of nearly pure copper, containing 88.5% of it and the rest of the alloy made up of zinc, manganese and nickel. The presidency dates are shown on the obverse, while the date of production and mint is stamped along the edge of the coin together with the mottos. My suggestion is that you keep just a few nice specimens, then spend the rest coz these dollar coins are not going to be worth a lot as far as I can see. Probably just a little over face in let's say, 10-20 years time. There are just too many of the Presidential dollar coins being minted annually. But if your dollar coins don't have any letterings engraved on the edge, then those are the much sought after and heavily publicized error coins.
