True democracies have a fatal flaw, and we're beginning to see it in the US, even though we're a republic. Voters begin to realize that they can vote in people who will create "giveaway" programs. As soon as enough people are on the welfare systems, the democracy will go bankrupt.

A democracy is the worst form of government. I'd rather be under the rule of one man than under the tyranny of 51% of my countrymen. A republic is the best form of government that man can do. Look up the difference between a democracy and a republic.

Democracy has been proven to have its serious flaws, but so has a republic form of government.
The U.S.A. is a republic - not a true democracy.
A republic is ruled by those elected by the people - which, in the case of the U.S.A., includes an arrogant, cowardly, incompetent, corrupt Congress;
A democracy is ruled by the people.
I would rather put my confidence in 51% of the "people" than in 535 members of an inept Congress and an assortment of cabinet members and bureaucrats who are beholden to a political party instead of the citizenry.
