Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, or Terminator X? Was it the rhythm, the voice, the clock, or the armed guards that made Public Enemy famous?

Chuck D. Flav is a supporter of his rhyme, X drives 'em to the edge of panic, and Griff was booted once, so the Public Enemy #1 is the Juice on the loose, the Voice of Power, Chuck D.

I think in this case it was a team effort. Chuck is the driving force that is Public Enemy, but he has always said that there would be no Public Enemy without Flavor Flav. Chuck's straight forward and powerful lyrics and voice were great and one of a kind, but they also needed Flav to break it down and provide some comic relief.
But I think the main thing for PE was their message and this unique beats. To this day there has been nothing that compares to their classic albums. They came along at the exact right time with their message and style, and timing is often everything.
So I think in the case of Public Enemy all the elements were vital and equally important.

JK. Flave had the clock, but without the voice and lungs of Chuck D doing "Bring the Noiz", they never would have made it.
Chuck gets my vote.
