Social security department is one which has to handle a huge number of queries and cases every day. While I understand the frustration at waiting long, people at the mercy of SS are helpless! Anyway, have patience and you will get what you deserve in due course of time.

Well, I have gone through pretty much the same thing with them after being rear-ended by a drunk years ago and it messed up my back for life. I quit working 2 years ago because arthritis is getting to be too much for me, and applied. Was turned down twice and then went to a hearing. Was sent to a couple of specialists because the judge wasn't convinced. I just got my letter stating that I would get June's payment in July, and no back pay after nearly 2 years of waiting. Seems that the day before your 50th birthday you are not considered disabled, but the day you turn 50, you are.
But I was on a pilot program with them trying to learn to be speedier. I guess that patience is a virtue with the government. And not being fair to you is the norm!
