I bought a new battery and AC adapter, but the battery can't be recharged if it dies. What couple possibly be the problem. I'm going to take it to a shop, but I wanted a general idea before I go to prevent being ripped off.

Are you sure the battery is New and not Refurbished? Hopefully your warranty is still good.

FYI: For Future Reference
There is a certain amount of care that must go into Laptops to help the extended life of the batteries. The next battery you get follow these rules.
1. Make sure you charge the battery fully before using it.
2. Make sure the battery is fully discharged before recharging it.
3. If the battery is not fully discharged there may be an option on your Laptop depending on which one you have that will allow you to manually discharge the battery. Then you can proceed with the Charging.
4. Remove your battery from your laptop when your using electric, unless your charging the battery.

Keep in mind if you constantly recharge your battery when its only 50% empty it will soon only operate at 50% capacity.

FINALLY: When buying your next Laptop maybe you should consider checking for Laptop's which have batteries that give a longer life span.

Hope this helps. I learned my lesson on this awhile ago when I found out a New Battery would cost me $200. Well you may not have to worry about that these days I think the price has dropped dramatically to about $50 a battery.

So just pick-up a spare while your at it.

My HP laptop computer was purchased new in May 2014. I have used it only a few times. When I plug it in, it tells me it is plugged in but not recharging. It doesn't seem to want to recharge the battery. I bought this online and I live in a remove area with no IT support.

If your laptop is still under warranty, I would get out all ID information - purchase order number, date of purchase, serial number, then contact the seller. You might be able to get a free replacement.

If your laptop is out of warranty, your battery might just be a "lemon" in which case you will have to buy a new one.

"Digital" - an answerer above - has many good suggestions.

The battery has bad cells you'll need to replace it! DON'T let them tell you it's something wrong with the laptop it's self!
