and how much war and bloodshed came as a result? And do you realize that Iraq is a technologically advanced tribal nation? With this in mind, how long and how much more death and destruction do you think it will take to bring democracy to Iraq?

Unfortunately Pip you are correct.I work on a reservation and some of the elders still remember when they weren't allowed to go shopping in a group.Nor were they allowed to use their native tongue.Believe this or not but the area I'm speaking of if a Native American woman as late as 1965 got raped by a white man she knew better than to report it.I have Native American kids and try not to let them fall into the dispair that I see on the reservation.I won't live on the reservation because I feel it's a demoralizing and pathetic attempt to keep Native Americans down.

Now here is a prime example of an extremely uneducated question.. if there was such a thing. Before you label Native Americans, you better know a thing or two about them.

The Natives differed tremendously of course from nation to nation, however shared a few things in common with one another.. particularly in the Eastern Woodland region of the United States and Canada. They didn't have an authoritative figure telling them what to do... there were no police, but simply social norms one could live by or refuse to. Leadership for them wasn't for one person only. The tribe was divided into bands, which had a spiritual leader, a war leader, a communal leader, a hunting leader. The bands would occassionally join for festivals at certain times of the year (usually Spring) and then decide common goals of the Nation.

The Natives had a representative form of government long before Europeans came. They had free will, and weren't really tied down by codified laws (FOR THE MOST PART).

America didn't go to war to bring democracy to Natives, America went to war to kill the Natives and take their land. You can try to put it any other way, but that's the facts of the matter. Just like how America doesn't really care if democracy is bestowed in Iraq.. just as long as the resources are secured for Western usage.

Americans did not bring democracy to the Native Americans! They were hog tied, lied to and forced onto lands that were foreign to them. Then they were force fed this crap you call democracy!

Iraq and the Native Americans have nothing to do with each other.

While I do see some similarities, it is not a very good comparison. I do wholeheartedly share your sentiment.

I answered a question yesterday the same way. We will have to be willing to kill nearly every male in order to make a difference in the outcome of Iraq.

zero years.

some native americans had highly advanced cultures before we came here.

the iroquois nation for instance, was highly advanced culturally.

by the way, from 1492-1776 colonists who were here did not represent a democracy, but a monarchy.

i'm also wondering if you have in mind for the iraqis the same thing fate that befell native americans - namely genocide - just curious.

also nice talking points.

We never did. They still operate as almost a separate entity, under their own tribal laws.

Good point.
