Pipripi and SS4 are both right. You should award points to them. I think you are talking about 1,4-butanediol. This reacts with terephthalic acid, HO2C-C6H4-CO2H, to form polybutylene terephthalate or polytetramethylene terephthalate. If this is the answer, this is a condensation polymerization as opposed to an addition polymerization (e.g., polyethylene). Condensation splits out a small molecule, like water.

no. the effect of polymerization where you send your fusion materials to the graveyard is not a cost. once you activate polymerization, the opposing player (or you, if you're on a trip) may counter the effect. if a player doesn't want to counter it, then the spell will resolve. negation/counter cannot be possible during resolution. on the other hand, if the opposing player (or you, again, if you're on a trip) counters it, then the effect of polymerization will be negated. but you don't have to send fusion materials on the graveyard.

It would probably be a condensation reaction where you remove water from the butanol to form the bond between each other. You could possible do acid hydrolysis too.

You can not polymerize that. Compounds that can be must have double bond or to make it be free radical. I have never heard of polymerization of butanol.

Alcohols are able to react with carboxylic acids to form a salt (ester) and water under the esterification process.
Long polymer chains only form in the presence of unsaturated bonds (double bonds) between carbon atoms or if the alcohol and carboxylic acids have got functional groups, ie. -OH and -COOH respectively, on both ends of the molecules.
e.g.
(C4H9)OH + (C2H5)COOH ---> (C4H9)COO(C2H5) + H2O
The product is butylpropanoate.
