"The Old Devils" is a book by Kingsley Amis. I believe he won a literary prize for it. (Perhaps he won the Booker Prize?)

Kingsley Amis. Some of his novels are really fine, but you should really try to track down his correspondence with Philip Larkin - it was wicked! Very non-PC.
