Big 5? I think it is now 'Big 4' after the Enron saga.

It is always a good idea to further your study. However, doing a PhD/MBA is not a career move, it is a mean that helps with the process.

You need to ask yourself what is your career goal e.g. business performance services, banking etc. By establishing the goal, it will help you make up your mind about the suitable program.

I know for sure that Big 4 companies have career planning program. You should talk to your direct manager for guidance (you could even get the company to sponsor your PhD/MBA).

Also doing a PhD can work against you rather benefit your career. Unless you are very senior in the chain (e.g. director/partner of the Big 4), PhD might make you overqualified for your next job. Most of the PhD graduates are academia rather than commercial.

You should only get a PhD if you want to do research. I don't just mean you want to do research -- but if you are driven to do research.

Contrary to what others here tell you, it will not be difficult to get a job with a PhD -- but the kind of work you will do will be specialized -- either academic or in research in industry.

An MBA is a very practical degree. If you want to get into management or want ot change professions, then get as good an MBA as you possibly can. If not -- then don't bother with the MBA.

MBA--PhD's have a harder time getting employed, as people automatically think they are overqualified for most jobs. MBA's are looked for everywhere.

Unless you want to be a teacher or researcher, go for the MBA.
