Absolutely they should exist and fortunately they do!

The provide a valuable service and they risk their lives everyday! You've not seen the footage of the illegals throwing gas bombs and rocks and rolling the Border Patrol Agents vehicles over cliffs.

Unfortunately the vast majority of those trying to come into the country illegally are criminals. Approximately 85% are into some kind of illegal trade. The other 15% are people trying to immigrate to a better life.

The border patrol is a relatively new agency. It didn't exist until the Great Depression and was used to keep out workers when we had huge unemployment. Then when the war started it was used to watch for fifth Columnists. When the economy took off the border patrol was used to aid in getting cheap labor into the country notably under the bracero program. In the last 20 years only, has the border patrol be given any real training and funding.

The BP is essentially overwhelmed by the numbers they are facing on a daily basis. They focus on interdiction at the border. But they should be busting employers if they want to stop the flow of undocumented workers. But ironically enough, the GOP has defeated any real legislation to enforce the rules on business, especially big business. It is a little known and badly kept secret that the GOP uses immigration issues for fund raising and votes but protect big business with an almost endless supply of cheap labor.

Former U.S. Senator Simpson who co-wrote the 1986 amnesty law still complains of his party stripping any provisions for a national worker ID card and employer sanctions and enforcement. The result was a compromise which resulted in a bad policy and program.

Ultimately we need to protect our borders. It's ironic that the U.S. patrols its border to keep people out and many of the other countries patrol their borders to keep the people in, so they can't escape the dictators.

Very socialist world view you have there. We are a country of laws. We are a country of order. We need to have people enter the country legally so they can benefit from the system we have. We need them registered. We need them to pay taxes. An open border means we will be swamped with people who might not contribute to our system.
