Queen's first albums have an operatic/symphonic
feel to them. Day at the Races, Night at the Opera
are like that. But on one of those "Tie Your
Mother Down" is a flatout jam.

Oh, and something else. Most people know
about Freddie Mercury, but in high school no
one cared about that, or about Elton John's
sexual preferences. We just liked the music.

Without Queen there would not be a My Chemical Romance. Because Queen wouldn't have inspired them like they have. Freddy dying of Aids has NOT stigmatized the band. They are more popular now than they have ever been! And to the guy who said they're music was lame but he liked 'Another One Bites The Dust'...LOL! You've obviously never listened to the album tracks on their albums or you would know that anything 'even close to lame' was 'Another One Bites The DUst'...lol And I'm not saying it was lame. Each of the 4 members of Queen wrote hit song after hit song but they all were connected by the Queen sound. Can you say that about ANY current group? Most groups are driven by one songwriter and one vision, Queen were driven by 4 songwriters and one vision. Freddy was a great singer! But, he was an awesome (underrated) musician as well. My Chemical Romance were 'definately' influenced by Queen. But, so were so many other current bands. Sure, Freddy was gay. The music was far from it! ;-) I'm guessing the lead singer of My Chemical Romance is gay too. I know my gaydar goes off everytime I see him. But it's really irrevelant. Good music IS good music!

Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, not just on record but one of the great live bands as well. They helped define the term "theatre rock" with anthems like "Bohemian Rhapsody" ( probably one of the top ten all time songs) "Killer Queen" and "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" They released some of the greatest rock albums in history like "Sheer Heart Attack" " A Night At The Opera" "News Of The World" "A Day At The Races" and "The Game". They had some soft-sounding things - "Love Of My LIfe", "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon"- but could rock as hard as any other British group of the 70's. Check out songs like "Tie Your Mother Down" "Ogre Battle"
"Get Down Make Love"," Fat Bottomed Girls" "Liar","Dragon Attack" to name a few that show Queen's harder edge. They were a combination of four talented, unique performers who created a lot of groundbreaking recording techniques and vocal harmonies never before heard on such a grand scale.
Freddie Mercury had one of the finest voices ever heard in music and a pure showman with a flair for the operatic. Guitarist Brian May has probably the most instantly identifiable guitar sound ; he built his own one of a kind guitar and used it exclusively which contributed heavily to Queen's unique sound and style. John Deacon (bass) and Roger Meadows-Taylor (drums ) formed and equally unique and powerful rhythm section that gave Queen the solid foudation over which they layered May's textured, multitracked guitar and Mercury's superb vocals.

I don't particularly like Queen's music but in 20 years when people are still listening to them, I wonder how many will even remember MRC. Quite frankly, I've never even heard of them today.

wow, you need to go out and buy yourself a Queen cd stat!! i reccomend the 3 disk box set. just all around great band!! excellent vocals, guitar!! however the lead singer died of aids, and they have since replaced him, and he sounds nothing like the original singer, so only listen to old stuff.
i would have to say one of the greastest bands there ever was.
wayyyy before theere time, thats for sure.

queen was popular in the early eighties, but they are pretty lame overall, they had a lot of popular songs, we will rock you, we are the champions, bohemian rhapsody, and what not, but they only had one song that i like, another one bites the dust, if you're going to get into some good classic rock i'd pass them up, and head towards creedence or the allman brothers, get heavier with zeppelin and sabbath, or for the best in rock, go to the source with little richard, jerry lee lewis, and, chuck berry, on a side note the lead singer from queen freddy mercury was gay and died of aids, stigmatizing his work to alot of queen fans, you'd think they'd have known the bands name was queen
