I don't think we should focus on just getting warm bodies to cast ballots. We need to make sure people are educated about the issues and know the candidates position on the issues. Why would we want someone who is ignorant about issues voting? They could effect our country's well being by voting on issues/candidates they know nothing about. Do you think people can make an educated decision based on a campaign ad? No, we should not encourage people to vote. We should encourage them to care about the issues we face and let that concern carry them to the voting booth.

The voters think that they have got no stake in the election.
That is why they do not go to vote. If there is a proprtional
representation things may improve.
Voters are just like bonded labourers. They are forced to
vote for certain candidates. In West Bengal all avenues
legal and mainly illegal employment is controlled by the
Govt. through political mafias. There are 35,000 hawkers
illegally hawking in the streets. They have to pay Rs 50 per
week. The illegal autorickshawa's have to pay Rs 5 every day.
The Taxis had to pay Rs 2 to Rs5 per trip depending on the distance
to the CITU men.If you want to organise the Police will
furnish you with false chargesheets. All Govt. contracts are
controlled by the Political mafia. The political party has a
muticrore organisation where just like BIG BROTHER
they keep a tab on ordinary people. If a area does not vote for them civic amenities will be denied to them.Even
intelligentia want to "save their skin" and does not protest.
Till recently false voting was the order of the day.Just to
register their protest, ordinary voters like me do not want
to stand in the hot sun for one hour to vote and thereby do not
go to the polling booth.

Excellent question but I don't really believe there is a real solution to this problem. Many GOTV efforts have been asking themselves the same question over and over, election year after election year.

It would be great if we could at least get up to 50 percent, but as a rule it is usually 35 to 45 percent, and that might be pushing it.

Let me know if you come up with any solutions. I volunteer on many campaigns here in Travis County, Texas and any suggestions would be more than welcome!

Well getting them to vote for someone and forget the republicans and democrats if the people knew that had electable alternatives they all would vote. I can't say this enough we must take our country back and the only way to do it is everybody has to vote.

Americans should not have to go to work that day.
Give them the day off so more voters can go to the polls.

Why would you want to? 120 million idiots voted in 2004, seems like way more than enough.

Tell them that their vote could keep a repeat of what's happening now from happening!

Well, crack and cigarettes work pretty good if you're going for Dem voters. Repubs still pretty much require cash.
