Yes. People have to take an IQ test before marriage. Anybody can pass a blood test. This way, if you have to prove that you're not a complete idiot before marriage, that will cut way down on the problems with the current system. Also, if your score is really low, you can't get married AND they sterilize you.
Side note: You consider cat fights a negative? Some people make good money filming those.

Whether or not they work better is a personal opinion. One thing you are forgetting is more wives and children mean more food, clothes and money to be provided by one man. Most families, wives do not work. A lot of those families are either on state aid or have to home school their children and make their own clothes to get by. Plus, for the women they are having to share a man. They split the week or weeks up between wives for alone time with the husband. Some wives even watch when their husband brings home a new wife and has sex with her. Most of those families that believe in that type of marriage, don't believe in divorce and if you leave the family you are exiled from the community. Plus you don't get to take your children.
I could never be in that kind of relationship. I personally think people should have to apply to get married or have children. It wouldn't necessarily be based on income but it would prevent so many children in poverty, or who needs to be adopted. It would prevent people on drugs or who had mental problems from reproducing. I think that people should have to go through as much as they do to adopt a child. That is just my opinion though.
