Regardless of tank size, is a group of blue/green chromis' better in a group of 4 or 5? or does it matter?

Chromis are a schooling fish, and they're probably more comfortable the larger their group. It's also one of the few saltwater species that CAN be kept as more than a mated pair in a tank size that most people would use in their homes. They should be kept in odd numbers, so you might want to go for at least 3. More than that, it will have to depend on your tank size (40 gal, right?) and what else you plan to keep, so you don't overstock the tank.

Im not entirely familiar with that fish but I recall hearing that theyd be fine. Just keep in mind that you cant put in as many salt water fish per tank as fresh so even if theyre small they detract from the number of fish you can have in a tank. Also a school of fish is not protection against bigger fish. The general rule is make sure the fish you get cant fit in the mouth of the fish you have and that the fish you have dont fit in the mouth of the fish you get. So make a list of fish you want in the long term and then buy(keep in mind most fish come at a length of 4 inches or so but grow to 1 2 even up to 4 feet so just because they dont fit yet they may later).
