Unless it is within the confines of a religious ceremony, circumcision is generally performed in the hospital after the baby is born, but before he goes home.

Well, since you're Christian the act of circumcision isn't for religious reasons anyway; the Apostle Paul said that circumcision was not necessary for Gentile believers. So the best time is in the hospital, when he's a newborn and it's done with local anesthesia, and he's there in the hospital anyway, which will make it convenient to monitor him and make sure there are no complications.

If the baptism is just a sprinkling & the baby will not be immursed in the water then before would be fine. If the babtism involves putting the lower half of his body in the water then it would be better to wait until after the babtism so there is less room for infections.
As a suggestion from the on call Dr. @ the hospital where I delivered, my baby was not circumcized until his 1st check up. I would have preferred to have it done in the hospital though so that they can help you w/ taking care of it for the 1st few days.

Most doctors will tell you that the best time to do it is right after he's born, while he's still in the hospital. Jewish tradition dictates that the baby is circumcised at a bris, which is the circumcision ceremony, usually about a week or two after he's born, but if there are no religious reasons to wait, it's better for everybody to just do it right after birth.

In the hospital before you even come home, Baptism has nothing to do with circumsision, it is a public statement that you take Jesus in your heart. Some doctors do it at the first visit, but most do it right in the hospital.

ummm never....circumcision was given tot he Jews by god...it was never said that a believer needs to be circ. infact when the Jewish followers of Christ insisted the gentile followers be circ. they were called mutilators and dogs..and the Gentile's were informed that for them their circumcision took pace in the heart the only place that mattered....AAP no longer recommends circumcising due to the face there are no real benefits from it and the very real risk of infection it can cause

I would recommend that it be done before he leaves the hospital. My son has to wait a year because he was'nt quite big enough (poor little guy!) They were afraid they would cut into the scrotum. I would do it ASAP. My husband came to the states when he was 4 and had it done when he was 5. He remembers it. He said it was horrible!
