All the normal things, like buying a card or flowers. Let her talk about her pet as much as she wants to. Let her cry. If you are uncomfortable when she cries, she will know it and be reluctant to cry around you...
Also, don't assume that in a month or two months she is over it. Let her know that she can talk to you about her lost pet, even if a YEAR has gone by.
Just be a good friend.

Offer your condolensces and maybe get flowers or at least a card or even something else to brighten up his/her coming days of mourning. For many (most) pet owners, their pet is very important to them and a member of their family so losing the pet is like losing anyone else close to them. So just remember that when you correspond with your friend.

Be there for your friend at a very sad time.
You might want to check out these sites for more ideas and you can light a candle at the rainbow bridge memorial in memory of her pet...your friend might find that comforting.

A card, a small gift, anything that says you are thinking about your friend in their time of need. Just write inside the card....... If you need to talk, even at three in the morning, im here. That way, they will know you are there whenever they need you. and dont try to hurry the grieving process. its like losing a human member of the family. it is devastating and takes a long time to recover from

umm depends on the kind of "pet" but when our cat died and my young children were upset
We had a small ceremony and buried it in the backyard
then we planted flowers over it, so that they could see the cycle of life:)
I also had then write a note to the kitty on a few helium balloons and we let them go to "heaven" so the kitty would know we still loved him
This seemed to work

Comfort them. If you can get a hold of some pictures, make them a nice collage. Pictures can be very helpful when healing i think.

tell her to keep holding on and just stay strong and tell her that you are there for her, just let it go because her pet don't want to see her being sad everyday

Get a sympathy card and treat her as you would if any other member of her family died.
