Tom Selleck turned down playing Indiana Jones.
I guess he was busy playing Magnum P.I.
People supposedly considered for Han Solo:
James Caan
Perry King
Nick Nolte
Al Pacino
Kurt Russell
Sylvester Stallone
Christopher Walken
Billy Dee Williams
Harrison Ford apparently turned down the role of Mike Stivic on TV's 'All in the Family'.
The only one that I can find that supposedly turned down the role of Han Solo is Al Pacino.

George saw 'Nick Nolte' in a 1973 episode of Gunsmoke called 'The Tarnished Badge' and because of this asked him to play Han. Nick thought it was a dead-end role and turned it down. If you ever get a chance to see this episode you'll notice a few things, such as the outfit Nick Nolte is wearing was reproduced for Han Solo. The lady walking with Nolte on the sidewalk of Dodge City has her hair done exactly the way Leia's hair is in 'Star Wars'. The storyline of the episode itself is about a 'good' Sheriff who 'turns bad (darkside)' and he's dressed completely in black, just like Darth Vader. I'm sure there are more simularities. This episode plays on TV Land every couple of months, so keep an eye out for 'The Tarnished Badge' episode of Gunsmoke.
Now, you say "...they refused as they had a hit tv series...". I think you may have your movies mixed up. Tom Selleck was originally hired as 'INDIANA JONES' and was all set to play the part, when his Pilot for 'Magnum PI' got picked up and he was contractually obligated to do the tv show, so had to quit the Indiana Jones film. Of course, Magnum PI was a smash hit for him... :-)

I just watched a "Star Wars" special and George Lucas said he called Harrison Ford in to read for the part of Han with all of the other actors auditioning for the other major parts. After watching Harrison, Lucas decided he was perfect for the part and cast him. The special I watched didn't make mention of any other actor being consider for Han. That doesn't make it so, it's just what this one special mentioned.

My cousin Bill tried out for the part; however he didn't get to be Han Solo but he's the tallest of all the Jawas in the original Star Wars. He's the only one who wasn't a Midget or a Hobbit. You can peep him out easy in the movie he's like a foot taller than the rest.

Harrison Ford was the primary candidate for Hans Solo. You are thinking of Indiana Jones...Tom Selleck was originally picked for the part but he was in the middle of filiming Magnum PI.

James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino and Nick Nolte all, reportedly, turned down the role. (I still can't get my mind around the idea of Al Pacino as Han Solo.)

Al Pacino was asked but turn the part down. He's the only one I can think of who actually refused the role.
That would have been an interesting casting decision, though.
Cheers!! :)
