depends on the industry. i work in the wine industry in napa, and jeans are acceptable because it is agricultural area. so for me business casual usually means the following things:
khakis (or any chino type pant)
jeans
denim skirts
tweed houndstooth pants
oxford shirts
nice fitted t-shirts
sweater sets
long to the knee shorts (when it is hot in summer)
tweed blazers
best stores in my opinion of for business casual are j. crew, banana republic and ann taylor loft.

Think country club casual. No Jeans, no sneakers. Nice tops and pants

A nice pair of dress pants (not jeans)
A nice blouse
A nice sweater or dress jacket
a pair of flats or low heels (no tennis shoes)
