All Honda Civics are direct port injection. Direct injection simply means one fuel injector for each cylinder as opposed to throttle body injection where there are two injectors that spray into the intake manifold and fuel all cylinders as the mixture is pulled through the separate intake runners for each cylinder.

the Civic also uses Direct Ignition which means that each cylinder has a separate ignition coil that is electronicaly controlled to fire each spark plug. The Civic does not have a distributor.

Both the rate of the fuel injection and the timing of the ignition are controlled by the onboard engine management system computer to maximize performance, fuel economy and driveability.
