Laptop Battery prroblems!!...help me out.?

i think there is some sort of problem with my laptop's battery.
my laptop turned off as the power outlet went out.....i mean isn't it supposed to run on battery even though the power outlet cuts off.......then i thought may be the battery has drained off but windows reports that the battery is 100% charged and it doesn't report any sort of problems connected with the battery,,,,,and one more thing, i cannot start the laptop from battery, ie., powerin up the laptop when it is not connected to power outlet.
the laptop is like just 3 months old......so i guess i am lucky enough to get it replaced, but still what went wrong whith the battery?

plug it up and see if the factory default is hibernation when the laptop is unplugged to save the battery

otherwise it sounds like a defective battery

I had sort of a similar problem with my laptop a few years ago.
I'd carry the lap-top in my briefcase between home & office.
Because of the carrying position, the weight of the battery would put pressure on the contacts in the battery compartment. Jostling around, plus the weight eventually bent the contacts to the degree that the battery no longer had a good connection .
I bent the contact prongs back into place (carefully) and began carrying the laptop in the inverted position, with the weight of the battery then off the contacts.
Haven't had a problem since.
(You may also want to try an electrical connection cleaner to make sure the contacts are not dirty...Radio Shack carries it)

This is a promblem that comes to many of people that purchase a Laptop, and i'am also a victim too.
I recently bought a Laptop too and it says the same thing.
Really when you was at the store buying the Laptop you should always say can i see this Laptop run in action ?
Meaning turning the Laptop on too see if there are any promblems with the Laptop.
But i would say its either your battery they gave you , it was probably used, or its just the Laptop at it self.
