it was originally a screen play.... made a long time before Disney's .... J.M. Barrey wrote it

The play was first, based on a book written in the early 1900's. The proceeds of the book, and those proceeds the author would have received from later Peter Pan licensing, still go to an orphanage in England.

it was a stage play ;ong before it was made into the animated movie. it was in the 60s in which the play gained a lot of attention when women played the part of Pan and the play was televised. Acrtess Mary Martin played Pan on tv

Wikipedia says the book is an adaptation of the stage play...so I guess the answer to your question would be the play--long before Disney ever got ahold of it.
